MECHANICAL ENGINEER

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, analysing, and optimizing mechanical systems and components within Gazelle's platforms. With expertise in mechanical engineering principles, this role involves developing CAD models, conducting structural and thermal analyses, and overseeing the fabrication and installation of mechanical components. Responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.

Professional experience

  • 5 years of experience in mechanical design or analysis within the renewable energy sector, preferably with exposure to offshore wind technology.
  • Experience in complex engineering projects in the marine environment is beneficial.
  • Experience in fabrication and construction yards is beneficial.

Specific professional specialization relevant

  • Good technical knowledge of CAD systems (SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar) and Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and MATLAB.
  • Must have good working awareness of codes and standards in FOW or similar industry.
  • Familiarity with advanced materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Have spatial imagination and methodical understanding.
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately.

Others requirements

  • Multidisciplinary skills and good knowledge of cross functional disciplines especially Materials and CAD modelling is beneficial.
  • Should demonstrate enthusiasm, support, and engagement with their team.
  • Innovative thinking, always keeping up to date with technology.
  • Good interpersonal skills and team player.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Fluency in English is required; Portuguese is beneficial but not mandatory.

Activities/Functions

  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop CAD models and perform calculations aimed at optimizing the design of various mechanical components within the platform.
  • Utilize engineering principles and software tools to conduct stress and fatigue analysis on mechanical components. This involves assessing the structural integrity of components under various loading conditions and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Evaluate materials for use in mechanical components based on factors such as strength, durability, and cost-effectiveness. Conduct material testing and analysis to determine suitability for specific applications and environmental conditions.
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams and suppliers to ensure that designed components can be effectively produced. Provide technical guidance and support during the fabrication process to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Monitor and manage appraisal comments of engineering deliverables from the engineering contractor to Gazelle technical team, ensuring on time review and feedback for mechanical scope.
  • Perform performance evaluations of mechanical systems and components through testing, simulation, and data analysis. Identify areas for improvement and propose design modifications to enhance overall system performance and efficiency.
  • Stay updated on relevant industry standards, regulations, and certification requirements related to mechanical components in offshore wind systems.
  • Provide guidance to the technical and project teams to deliver technically sound solutions.
  • Implement project management methodologies as needed to maintain control over progress and adherence to schedules.
  • Prepare necessary documentation for DNV approval and project documents for submission to the administration.
  • Maintain compliance with company guidelines, safety, and quality procedures.

General conditions

    Location:

  • Based in our Viana do Castelo office.
  • Minimum 3 days per week in the office, ideally 4-5 days.
  • Contract & Working Hours:

  • Permanent contract with an initial trial period.
  • 40-hour work week.
  • 22 days of vacation annually.
  • Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: €3,214 - €4,643 gross per month (based on experience), 14 salaries per year.
  • Food allowance: €9.60 per working day (approx. €200 net per month, paid 11 times per year).
